How to be happy!

A Simple Suggestion for Happiness #5 (Meditate on this one.)

amazing journey meditation 1

In today’s crazy, chaotic, loud, stressful world, wouldn’t it be nice to have a few moments of real peace and quiet?

Imagine yourself completely relaxed and your mind calmly resting.

Simply put, this is meditation. It has nothing to do with sitting in an uncomfortable position in the shape of a lotus flower. Meditation is also not about chanting ancient syllables or mantras.

Let me tell you why you might consider adding the concept of meditation to your life.

It is impossible to truly create something without leaving a bit of yourself in the creation. Similarly, there is a divine spark inside you. It is the signature of your creator. As hard as it is to believe that, it is equally amazing, when you discover that it is true.

Meditation has to do with simply being still, quiet, and listening. Ideally, the mind should be quiet (without thought). That is when it’s easiest to touch that divine spark. But in the beginning, that may seem impossible. Don’t worry. That’s just fine.

Try carving out a few quiet minutes—while everyone is asleep, perhaps. Just sit and listen. God is right there, waiting to be with you. If you must let your mind wander, meditate on your blessings. Gratitude opens the doors to heaven. What could it hurt to spend a few minutes each day thinking deeply and quietly about how good your life is?

One of my favorite bible verses is:

It doesn’t matter if you are sitting on a yoga mat or at your kitchen table. I dare you to find a way to just sit and be still for a few minutes. Take a few long, slow breaths. Then just listen. Spend some time with the one who made you. There is a kind of peace here, unlike anything you have ever known.

This meditation thing may not be for you. It’s not for everybody. That’s cool too.

But who knows? You might just stumble onto something that can change your life.

Have a blessed week!
I Love you all!

  1. Hey Laura! you are awesome! I love this post. I love the way you share meditation is not a “serious” thing or necessarily overly complex or challenging thing, but as something refreshing that we can all do. Love it!

I noticed, also, in your bio that you are “growing a tribe that wants to make the world a better place.” Are you by chance poly? Lots of poly people use that lingo of tribe…just curious! No pressure to answer; I’m just genuinely curious.

Thanks again for your awesome post!

    1. Thank you so much for your generous/ supportive comments!
Poly is a pretty good word, but I am just incredibly open! I don’t like labels and boxes. I prefer to be a seeker without boundaries.
I like the word tribe because our connections to each other and to God is really all we have.

      1. I’m the same way. I don’t prefer labels and boxes. I actually don’t identify as polyamorous anymore, even though for many years I wrote/talked about it constantly! I even wrote a book on the topic! But now I don’t see any benefit in labelling myself that. I prefer instead, as you do, to explore without boundaries.

        Do you have a twitter?
