“ Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.”
“Only love is real.”
A COURSE IN MIRACLES
I’ve wanted to dig into this book (A Course in Miracles),for about a year, but every time I begin, I’m confronted with passages like that; ideas that make no sense.
I believe I finally got it, and it is truly powerful.
Nothing is real, except love.
Think back and recall a time when you experienced a moment of unfettered creativity. You were in the flow. Your hands and brain were working in concert with your imagination. You lost track of time. In that moment, you had no conscious awareness of your problems. You were likely not even aware of your body.
These are magical moments, because you are doing the precise thing you were designed to do. You were created by and constructed with the same energy that creates the universe. You are, by nature, a creator.
Think about how you feel in that creative flow. It is one of the few times that you feel like the REAL you. That’s because you were created from love and when you allow your natural gifts to shine through, that is your passion, your love. This is your most authentic self.
All the rest of the time, you are mired under layers of ego-created stuff like fear, anger, frustration, sadness, and stress. Those things feel real because we give them so much power; all of our attention.
We spend every day in a mindless routine. We go through the day reminding ourselves that we are lacking in resources. We focus on our frustrations. We believe that we are lost or stuck or simply not enough.
You are so preoccupied with worries, overthinking, and negative self-talk that you don’t know what to think anymore. None of it really makes any sense. That’s because all the crap that’s cluttering up our minds and our time is not even real. It’s just a bunch of little coping mechanisms that we think we need to get through the day. We don’t know who we are. We have no purpose. It’s like trying to find your way through a dark room that’s full of cobwebs.
But we can’t let anyone else know about this state of affairs, so we put on a smile and pretend that every thing is fine. We put on a good show.
Once in a great while, we have some REAL fun. That happens when we participate in lively creative ways with people we love or we spend some time doing things that make our souls sing, things that make us happy on a deeper level. The light shines through.
What would happen if we shifted those percentages? What if a significant part of your day was spent in the hum and buzz of what you were created to do?
I know that sounds unrealistic, because we all have to pay the bills. Yadda, Yadda, Yadda. You don’t need to quit your job today and become a sidewalk poet.
But on some level, your soul is understanding this. There is something that you were made to do and you are really good at it. There are things that bring you REAL peace and REAL joy.
Find the things that make you tick and find a way to do them, in some way, for a few minutes every single day.
Once you open yourself up to the creative process, in a mindful and dedicated way, your soul will be living in its natural habitat. Happiness breed happiness.
I think you will find more and more opportunities to do, be, think, act, and become the real you.
